About Us |
PartnershipThe Dakota/Baltimore relationship began in the late 1990's when The Rev. Asa Wilson, pastor of Makasan Presbyterian Church, Oglala, Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota asked The Rev. George Demass of Baltimore Presbytery if Baltimore could be supportive of Dakota Presbytery in the years to come. Conversations began on how this could take place. Today that request for support has grown into the Baltimore Dakota Learning Camps, the idea of which was initiated by Dakota and whose model was developed by Baltimore. Though 2007 the camps were situated on Pine Ridge reservation, it is intended to spread throughout the Dakota Presbytery to its 23 churches. The 2008 camp season will saw this dream become a reality as the newest camp was held on the Lake Traverse Reservation in the Sisseton, South Dakota area. In 2010, our seventh Baltimore Dakota Learning Camp (Dakota) was held on the Yankton Reservation in partnership with the Cedar and Greenwood Churches. Churches in both presbyteries are mutually supported as are over 20 Baltimore churches that have been active in this relationship. The spiritual/cultural and prayer exchanges widen continually year after year. Justice issues such as continued medical and pension benefits are also advocated by Baltimore presbytery. Please prayerfully and actively continue to strengthen the Dakota/Baltimore relationship. |
